COPY OF LETTER SENT TO THE HON. MR.W.T.SOUTHORN, C.M. G. COLONIAL SECRETARY, HONGKONG, DATED 2ND OCTOBER, 1929.

sir,

Ref: "RAY" REFLECTIVE SIGNS.

We have the honour to refer you to our letter dated 13th August in regard to the above matter, and since, in our humble opinion, quite an unnecessary delay has taken place in having tm point in dispute decided upon already, would be glad to hear when we may expect a reply to our last communication.

we

Might we draw your attention to the fact that this Agency has, like other business matters, been left in our hands for a specified period, which is now rapidly drawing to a close, and since, as already stated, our progress in this Colony has been impeded through the want of support from the local P.W.D. Officials, we are, naturally, anxious that some- thing be done in the matter at the earliest possible date. We need hardly emphasize the fact that a delay such as has occured in this instance is not only prejudicial to the advancement of British industry, but is also pre judicial to our reputation as merchants with the manufacturers at Home. We have, however, notified them of the difficulties which have arisen in the territory covered by our Agreement, and in a communication received from then yesterday they naturally express complete surprise at the decided lack of support which has been extended to us in this Colony.

We would like to make it quite clear that we are, up to a point, aware of the somewhat varied routine necessary in Government Departments before a matter of this kind can be definitely decided upon, but the subject is, in our opinion, of sufficient moment to warrant earlier attention being given to it than has been our experience. We do not wish to hide our dis-satisfaction in the whole matter, as our feel- ings are very strong, but we are hopeful that through your good offices, the question will be settled at an early date to our benefit.

Awaiting the favour of your reply,

Wehare the honour to be,

sir,

Your obedient servants,

For, DAVIE, BOAG & CO.,LTD.,

NC:

Managing Director.
